history:
Since the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) first announced this project in 2005, little visible progress was been made on this project. However, in February 2007, the DEGC announced that a construction contract was awarded for the terminal. Construction will begin in March 2007 with the facility complete by July 2008.

The facility incorporates a soaring tensile canopy that picks up on similar public space themes present at Chene Park and soon to be built portions of the Detroit Riverfront.
